Local Love: Casa Bonita
Last week, I was lucky enough to revisit one of my favorite childhood spots in Colorado - the famous (or infamous) Casa Bonita.
Having been a cornerstone of Denver's cultural scene since its establishment in 1974, Casa Bonita, now under new ownership, is delighted to unveil its revitalized ambiance and a fresh culinary ensemble. Preserving its enchanting capacity to whisk visitors away to 1970s Mexico, Casa Bonita promises an unparalleled experience filled with live music, captivating shows, engaging games, and cherished memories destined to endure a lifetime.
Ask almost any Colorado native about their experience visiting Casa Bonita prior to the renovation and new ownership, and the sentiment is almost completely unanimous: Terrible food, amazing entertainment. But it was always about the atmosphere and entertainment, never about the cafeteria style mexican food. A trip to Casa Bonita was more about having fun and the memories created more than anything else.
Casa Bonita experienced a variety of issues over the years that eventually led to them temporarily closing their doors. In April 2021, Casa Bonita's parent company filed for bankruptcy, raising concerns about the potential loss of the cherished establishment in Denver. It was at this critical juncture that “South Park” creators Parker and Stone intervened to rescue the iconic venue.
The newly renovated Casa Bonita opened its doors last summer with Stone and Parker having spent a rumored $40 Million to get the restaurant ready for re-opening. The Food is definitely better, and of course, the entertainment and experience itself was great. It’s guaranteed to be a fun evening that you won’t soon forget. It’s bound to create an entirely new wave of nostalgia and memories for those who visit. Take a peek at some of the interior below:
